The Club at Las Campanas is Hiring a Camp Counselor Near Santa Fe, NM

Scope:

To provide outstanding service to our members’ children and grandchildren; support the lead counselor in implementing activities and events. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe, age-appropriate environment for campers at all times.
  • Demonstrate a positive regard for children consistent with the child-centered philosophy of Camp.
  • Attend camp staff meetings and contribute feedback, ideas and suggestions to improve staff performance and facilitate program excellence.
  • Assist Lead Counselor, instructors or facilitators in the implementation of camp activities.
  • Plan and lead recreational activities according to the weekly schedules.
  • Motivate and encourage children’s participation and growth.
  • Use appropriate strategies to re-direct or correct inappropriate behavior as needed.
  • Maintain positive communication with campers’ parents/guardians.
  • Maintain camp equipment.
  • Eat lunch (paid time) with campers each day.
  • Sign campers in and out each day.
  • Prepare for camp each day and clean up throughout the day and at the end of camp.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Note: Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor or management.

Relationships:

Internal: All Club departments: For effective communication.

External:Members/Guests: To provide excellent service.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience: 

Experience:

  • Experience with children ages 4-12.
  • Basic understanding of child development.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Education/Certifications:

  • High School diploma preferred.
  • CPR and First Aid certified or ability to become certified.

Certification and/or License Requirement: 

  • CPR and First Aid certified or ability to become certified.

Skills:

  • Must possess excellent oral, written, interpersonal, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Must possess the ability to interact with members, guest, children of all ages and staff on all levels in a professional, positive, and friendly manner.
  • Position requires a highly professional demeanor, adaptability, flexibility and adherence to a strict level of confidentiality.
  • Ability to plan and lead recreational activities independently.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Ability to manage multiple activities with the assistance of camp staff and facilitators.
  • Ability to swim.
  • Able to speak, read, write and understand English.

Working Conditions: 

Physical/Cognitive Activities:

  • Requires ability to bend, stoop, lift, balance and carry items up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to push or pull items on a cart up to 50lbs.
  • Ability to assist in moving furniture when necessary.
  • Ability to stand for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to work with flammable materials, and toxic cleaning chemicals as well as sharp knives and other objects.
  • Ability to move freely on a multi-floor building.
